With FIBA changing its qualifying format for the 2019 World Cup, NBA players will not be able to compete during the regular season.

This has left the US Men’s National Team to think outside the box, with the possibility of G League players filling in for the NBA players.

While qualifying games in the United States were often played in full-size NBA arenas, the US team with G League athletes almost certainly won’t draw the same size crowds as rosters containing star NBA players like Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Kyrie Irving, and more.

With that being said, what are the chances various G League sites could host qualifying games? Fairly likely, a league source tells 2 Ways & 10 Days.

It would make sense, given G League players will more than likely make up the team’s roster.

One such site in play is Santa Cruz, California according to a league source.

Nothing has been set in stone or finalized as these are merely preliminary discussions, but this would certainly be a nice reward for fans who have supported their local G League team for years.

Here’s a video courtesy of FIBA that provides the rundown for Americas qualifying.
